GCYSL Board Meeting

November 10, 2005 Minutes

Call to Order: Sophia Meyer called Meeting to order at 5:58pm.

Roll Call: Sophia Meyer, Steve Schaffer! , Dan Vielhauer, Jim Oebker, Cathy Ivazes, Jeff Moore, Sandi Bownas.

Minutes: Jeff motioned to approve October Minutes, Steve S 2nd the motion. All in favor.

Referee report: We are coming up on the end of the season with one last check to be mailed out to the referees. One ref has not received a check and has not been responding to Jim’s calls. This same ref also wasn’t showing up for scheduled games and has been removed from our list of active referees. Due to his no shows, several U10 rec games were played with one referee.

Correspondence: League mail and email has been slowing down. Several people have sent letters of intent to run for the board.

District VI Meeting: Everything is winding down. Main focus was on Competitive Clubs and their threat of separation from local leagues.

Competitive Meeting: El Dorado Club has separated from its Dist VI league and CYSA and joined US Soccer. Other clubs are considering this move as many leagues are making them chose between CYS! A and US Soccer. CYSA has accepted US teams at tournaments for a higher fee. Questions about the level of play of the US Soccer teams; are they metro, comp, or premier? Some leagues may lose field access due to the new incoming league. Also, some teams that join could end up with no home games, GCYSL is so small it is unlikely we will have to deal with this issue.

Metro: Ore Cart Classic application is in for the first weekend of August 2006.

All but 2 GCU metro teams are going to District Cup. About $10,000.oo is in the GCU account which will be spent on District cup fees and future clinics.

Fields: Sierra College wants to take over field scheduling. They want to do camps and use the field more for PE purposes. GCYSL will be ending its season and the last field use and set up fees should be paid. Seasonal set up pay came to $22,000.00. Pay schedules need to be re-evaluated, as there is too much discrepancy. Steve S has suggestions for volunteer program and field service.

Soccerfest- GCYSL may host and will move Joe Seimers team from Deer Creek to Seven Hills. Most fields will be shut down before Thanksgiving weekend.

BRHS upper field has been hydroseeded. Ready Springs needs sprinklers moved. Sierra College needs nets for fences but NUHS must build a road in the problem area so we’ll wait to address this issue. Steve S got the Sierra College goal welded but it was broken again by NU.

Registrar: Dan K’s team is to be processed for the winter league.

Secretary: Last of the plaques are in. Suggest next year we have a single day and location for coaches or team representative to come and pick up pictures and plaques.

New Business: Annual General Meeting will be held Sunday, Nov. 20th at the Superintendent of Schools office from 4-6pm. Three board positions are up for election. Jim will be running, but Jeff and Dan K will be retiring from the board. Two coaches have submitted letters of intent to run for the board, Leslie Nemeth and Chuck Hemmert.

A suggestion was made regarding team uniforms and will be discussed at the AGM in regards to operational issues. Steve L will bring a cake and Jeff will bring soft drinks and water. We have napkins, etc.

Good of the game: NCAA Women’s Soccer is happening through Dec.4th with GCYSL native Lauren Zealer playing with Santa Clara.

Steve L moved to adjourn the meeting, Jeff 2nd.  7:31pm meeting adjourned.
