GSYSL MINUTES
June 9, 2005
Roll Call: Sophia Meyer, Steve Schaffer, Dan Vielhauer, Dan Kumetat, Thomas Breitter, Cathy Ivazes, Hosea Bostic, and Sandi Bownas and Jim Obeker
Minutes: Steve S motioned to approve May minutes, Sandi 2nd, all approved. Minutes accepted.
Treasurer Report: Current balance $59,000.00 with $2000.00 in checking. Operating funds are in a .37% account which should be improved. Hosea would like to increase our investment by switching to a more feasible account. He would like permission to research for a better situation for our field fund.
Motion by Steve Schaffer, “ Hosea should seek out a better rate for our investment rather than the current money market account.” Thomas Second the motion. All in favor except for Dan K whoabstained.
New Business: SBC global phone company allows individual voice mailboxes with our system but we need to clarify if the cost is $20. per box or per phone system. If it is per box, then to save money, only a coach’s voicemail box will be set up.
Mileage stipends for league representatives who must attend regular district meetings in Sacramento should be increased to the current IRS rate, we currently pay ½ the IRS corporate rate.
Motion by Dan V, “ GCYSL will reimburse drivers trips to Sacramento to .30 a mile for league business.” Sandi seconded the motion. Motion amended to say “ for required CYSA/ District 6 meetings.” All in favor, motion passes.
Communications: Uniroyal program; Plaza Tire is once again participating in a soccer ball give away with free gift certificates for a ball. District meeting: seeking new volunteers. Paul Birch, District Cup Chair is retiring. The Chair for Soccerfest is also open, as well as District Playing League Chair, and the Secretary’s position.
The new district policy regarding u10 program changes was approved.
Competitive and Metro: The meetings discussed retirement and recruiting issues. Policies are really just “Gentlemen’s Agreements”. Coach’s movement was discussed. Policy changes were tabled for now. 3 leagues are smaller than us. This is our biggest metro increase in years.
Ore-Cart Classic: We have 33 teams enrolled. Looking to fill U14 boys. Enrollment is down in young age groups at most tournaments.
Trainers: GCYSL has previously addressed our policy on out of area trainers recruiting our teams and using our fields for their camps, etc. GCYSL has asked coaches not to participate in using outside trainers locally. Coaches would be disciplined by being placed in bad standing with the league. Motion to approve this policy by Dan K, Steve S 2nd. Approved.
Referees:
New clinic is started. Mostly under 13 years old. Need website updated for July class at BRHS. 8/13 and 8/20 are scheduled for the refresher course at Lymon Gilmore. Jim signed up for assessor’s class on 6/14. There is a new rule about staying 6 feet from someone throwing in the ball.
Webmaster: After last meeting Thomas increased our link words so now we can be located more easily. On Google’s web search we come up 1st in Nevada County for soccer inquires. He is interested in linking us to special soccer shopping site that can benefit the league with sales revenues.
Registration: Teams are in process and minimal problems thus far. Need help with registration this Saturday due to high school graduations. Kids are being entered into computer with new system to be learned. Verifiers need to note any oddities with applicants name, birth date, etc. on the form so Sandi can fix it.
Fields: Union Hill is charging us for use now. Steve S will meet with Superintendent next week, no use finalized until then. GV school district has increased their rates from $5-10 per hr. Steve S submitted our paperwork under non-profit status. Nevada City schools are being non-responsive on accepting use for our seeding tournament.
Need to consider hiring a handyman for league. (Matt Addiago’s son is one?)
New Business: On schools asking for field maintenance fees, suggestion: have schools spend money on field and we pay based on receipts to guarantee where money is spent.
Camp June 25: LA Galaxy will be in San Jose with the Earthquakes holding a coaching clinic and seminar with free food.
Uniforms: Many complaints about switching, we had no options. Samba’s deal with us on the package is somewhat askew when looking at the individual prices. Parents want trade in options. Samba had also offered to run this. Dan K will investigate. The board agreed to manage teams for uniform consistency but the trade in issue must be resolved. However, we need to review the contract and possibly approach local consignment vendors to step in. Girls teams need 2 jerseys, need to resolve this. Also the backs of the MLS jerseys are similar.
Meeting adjourned at 8:05pm
