Head/Assistant Coach F Clinics
As you know all head coaches are required to have a F license, so it's time to sign up for the clinic. First come, first serve. We recommend this for the assistant coaches as well. Head coaches have priority if space availability becomes an issue.
The first clinic is June 20 (evening), June 21 (day) and the second one is July 18 (evening), July 19 (day).
Our June "F" clinic has 1 more spot. To all of you replying, once that spot is filled, the only option is to then sign up for the July clinic.
WHY are games cancelled? What every coach needs to know!
Gold Country understands everyone's frustrations about rained out games. There is a general expectation that because the weather clears, automatically there should be games. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Because of this we want to provide you with more information to help you understand just exactly why we cancel games when we do.
We do not own any of the fields we use, and we are at the mercy of the different organizations that own them. They all have different use permits, fees, and regulations. However, all of the organizations require that we do not damage or impact their fields.
If we call off games because of rain, it is imperative that coaches do not override this and play anyways!
We are financially liable for any damage that is done to a field as a result of our use. The league could also lose permission to use a field. There are a limited number of fields for the league to practice and play games on. To lose the use of any field would severely impact the league.
A few years ago the league spent over $1000 for hydro seeding and $1000 for watering, after holding games on a saturated field. On top of paying for the damage, we nearly lost our use permit. This would have made unavailable three heavily used fields.
Our goal is to play soccer. This is why we wait as long as possible to make the decision about field closure. Sometimes it is obvious by Friday night, but most of the time we check the fields around 6 a.m. We have to make a final decision by 7 a.m. so that we can notify visiting teams. It is always unpleasant and disappointing to have to cancel the games.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Coaches help for rained out games
For a completely rained out day the coach that has the equipment needs to coordinate with the next coach scheduled to set up. Contact Steve Shaffer at fields@gcyslsoccer.org ASAP if you need help.
In the unfortunate event of games cancelled during the day, the last coach on the field should take the equipment (if this is a field normally scheduled for setup/tear down) and then follow the process above for the following Saturday.
Thank you for your help and support with this!
